From age 6 Alev Baymur Ozcan took ballet lessons and as an adult became a very famous ballet dancer, actress, and dance teacher in Turkey. During her youth she attended the prestigious Ankara State Conservatory where she excelled as an honor student, specializing not only in ballet but also in piano, music, and acting. After graduation, she attended the Haccettepe University in Ankara in the fine arts program.
As an adult Alev Baymur performed leading roles for the Istanbul Opera and Ballet Company for fifteen years in such performances as Carmen, Aida, The Book of One Thousand and One Nights, Three Ballets, and Romeo and Juliet. She also danced with Rudolf Nureyev. In addition, she did choreography work with musical programs and television shows.
In 1990 Alev Baymur was honored with the Turkish best actress award in drama in the movie “Small World” under the direction of Osman Sinav. She was not only the main character in many Turkish movies, but also the presenter for the Turkish Radio and Television Foundation where she had her own program called Ballet Life.
Alev Baymur founded and operated a private ballet school in Istanbul and continued her work in ballet education and dance organization. She had as many as 500 students and 14 teachers in her school. She currently serves on the Istanbul City Council on its Arts Commission, traveling back and forth from the United States until her term is completed.
Alev Baymur is now married to Irfan, and they live in İstanbul, with their daughter. She has a real estate license and is the founder of a new e-commerce company called Su International Co. Meanwhile, she wishes to continue her love of dance and teaching ballet on a part time basis in her newly adopted country, the United States.
